A Three Day Detox

Today I begin a three day detox cleanse. I have never attempted a "cleanse" or "fast" type short term diet before and have always questioned how and if it was any good for ones body and mind...

Back in November I stumbled across a segment of the Dr. Oz show, where Dr. Oz, Dr. Mark Hyman  and Dr. Natasha Turner discussed "jumpstarting your metabolism". I recorded the segment on DVR and C watched it one evening over winter break, she was blown away by the entire episode
(Melt Fat Fast: How to Reset Your Secret Fat Loss Hormones , Originally aired November 12th 2012).
We viewed the episode again and I recalled how intrigued I was with the Detox Cleanse...

You can see the segment here

After careful thought and consideration,  we decided to give it a go. Looking at the calender We decided that this upcoming weekend is the best time for us to have three open days to commit to the program. I am kicking off my detox two days earlier as I have the time, and she has work commitments (likewise I am committed to events on Sunday and Monday). It is always great to have a cohort in health and fitness endeavors, wither it be a partner, friend, co-worker, or family member. A great source of camaraderie for change and someone to be supportive of your goals. I am very lucky to have her!

As far as what I expect, I'm not quite sure. I am used to having many raw foods and staying away from processed materials, I doubt I will face any adverse withdrawal from the chemicals laced in the majority of "food". I have stepped down my caffeine usage over the past week , and have been happy with my green tea this morning. Also I have cut out beer over the past while (goes along with my wheat/gluten reduction plan). I feel solid and objective heading in to day one, and am looking forward to the experience!

Time to get to blending!!

  1. It was good to see a new post from you come up in my Google Reader! Brian and I are waiting on the arrival of a juicer, and I'm ridiculously excited about it. We are the same way--for the most part, we don't do processed foods and get many raw foods in our daily routine. But there's always room for more, and I'm anxious to see what effect juicing has on my health and energy. We're thinking about doing a detox/cleanse, so I appreciate the links you included here.

    Good luck this weekend!

    1. Melissa, Thanks for the comment! What juicer did you get? We have been using an old hand-me-down for sometime and I know we will be due for an upgrade soon. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on your model.
